Simple pleasures of life

For about nine months since her birth, Saraswathi had never been outside her room. She was diagnosed with a strange disease since her birth which kept her in the incubator all this long. Recently, the doctors recommended that she could be taken out and slowly start living a normal life. So, Krishna and Snehal were more than happy. But since their daughter has never been outside her room, they wanted to show something special for the first time when she came out.

Snehal: What do we show her?

Krishna: Maybe we could run a DVD of the latest animation picture in my laptop and show it to her?

Snehal: That would be quite normal. I want to show her something special.

Krishna: We’ll show her my Iphone. I have got this new theme….

Snehal: Forget it. I want to show something natural.

Krishna: Let us show the red roses in the garden.

Snehal: Where is the garden?

Krishna: Well, we have some pots having red roses in our balcony right?

Snehal: We had one pot which you brought before three months and the plant has died since as you never watered it.

Krishna: No one has responsibility in this house! Ok, then maybe we could take her in the car and Ill drive at 80 KM per hour. That should be a great experience for her!

Snehal: I think I know what to do. Wait, let me check the calendar. Yes, today is the right day. Ill go and open the terrace. You bring her up there. And close her eyes with your hands while you bring her up.

……………………….

Krishna: I am here.

Snehal: Ok. Now hold her in a position that she can see the sky when you take off your hands.

Krishna: Ok. Now here goes off my hands…..

The night sky was in its full splendor. It was a full moon day. There were almost no clouds and even some stars were visible. The kid should have loved the sight. But Krishna was even more exited.

Krishna: Wow Snehal, it is a lovely sight. The full moon is beautiful.

Snehal: Isn’t it?

Krishna: But, why didn’t you tell me before?

Snehal: Is this some kind of a breaking news which I was hiding from you? How long has it been since you came to the terrace and saw the moon?

Krishna: It’s been some years, I guess. Before I joined my IT job, I used to stare at the moon and wonder when I’ll get a job! And before that I used to come to the terrace to write poems.

Snehal: You and your IT job. You don’t seem to have the time for even enjoying the simple pleasures of life! By the way, what was the new theme that you were mentioning to have just put on your iphone?

Krishna: ‘Full Moon’!!

Magnificent, imaginative, pertinent. The KFI schools include nature appreciation in their daily activities. Many kids, parents, and teachers are wildlife enthusiasts, and an unusualy high percentage of them are experts.

It is good to see a lot of international schools having a more balanced curriculum based on developing the all round abilities of children than just the academic one! If you ask me, the board exams ought to test the students at least on one hobby of their choice!

MAgnificent, imaginative, pertinent. Systematic, daily, nature appreciation should be part of every school's activity. It is already so in the gr8 KFI schools, where almost all the kids, teachers, and parents are wildlife enthusiasts , and an unusually high percentage are experts

Well, its been sometime, I have faced fresh air on my face. Simple stuff has become a luxury now. very well written and reminded me, that there is life beyond the cubicle.

  7. Destination Infinity

Simple things are not only a luxury, but they have also become a symbol of richness. Take the hotels or resorts along a sea shore, for example, they are literally on thatched roofs and charge 6000 to 7000 rupees per day!!

I am planning to start a cooking blog by the title reallysimplecooking.wordpress and I want to write about how to make bread and jam, noodles and all the other simplest cookings there 🙂 Your recipes will be followed as long as it is kept simple 🙂 My house owner has locked up the terrace saying that there are some solar panels there! So, since I was not able to go to the terrace for a long time, I wrote this post in anxiety!

Very nice thoughts DI… I loved this one…. by the way I am an IT guy…. it's time to go out and enjoy the nature's picture 🙂

Most of my friends are in IT, and generally a lot of people are…. That's why i used IT, as it is common! But it is my firm opinion that more youngsters should consider non-IT options even if they are not initially not very high paying. And yes, enjoying nature is always a good thing to do….

It so happens that people are so busy that they hardly find time to appreciate nature. Sunrise, sunset, trees, moon..most of the things I see my little daughter appreciating it now. May be later she will also forget about it.

    1. Destination Infinity

There is always a certain happiness associated with innocence. I used to go to the terrace and lie down there looking at the moon for many minutes…. sometimes sleep also! Those good old days!!!

    **sigh**

Made me depressed…All of us are busy running after illusions and at the end of the day,we ahve neither the good ness of what we had ,nor didi we reach where we wanted to and fianlyl one end up cribbing and complaining..

It takes only a moment to look at the full moon, but it makes a lot of difference..I never miss to say 'hi' to the moon and the two accompanying stars and i make sure that my baby too developes a liking towards such small small things in life…

I think your first paragraph summed up what I wanted to say through this post!

nice! the full moon fascinates not jus the real world. but the virtual one too. the beauty remains unadulterated and appreciated in all forms.

    1. Destination Infinity

That's right. We are having more avenues to appreciate the wonders of nature. That's a positive comment!

DI, That was wonderful and so true.. We tend to forget the simple pleasures of life.. It is magical to see how happy my daughter is, to simply run in the park….ignoring all the sophisticated toys she has at home…

  17. Destination Infinity

Kids do reflect innocence and hence the pleasures associated with it. But alas, even they need to grow up and learn the code of humans…. Complicating everything that comes on their way!

    Destination Infinity

  18. Ashwathy

yes in the mad rush we all tend to forget…
    lovely story… keep 'em coming!

    1. Destination Infinity

The problem is: We tend to believe that simple things are no longer pleasurable as we have grown up and earn a lot of money.
