The Parthasarathy Temple in Triplicane, Chennai, is an 8th century Hindu Vaishnavite Temple. It is one of the 108 Divya desams, dedicated to God Vishnu. The word ‘Parthasarathy’ means ‘Charioteer of Arjuna’. The Temple was built by Pallavas in the 8th Century, extended by Cholas and Vijayanagara Kings, later on. The Temple seems to have got a major face-lift/restoration during 16th Century. Read more: Wikipedia.

I’ll leave you with some pictures taken by me at this Temple recently:

I visit this temple often, but have not noticed the sculptures in the gopuram! Beautifully captured, D.I. Thank you!

Beautiful photos! I visited this temple long back and could recollect very few moments. This templeโ€™s puliotharai is one of the best next to Kabalishwar temple. The temple looks well maintained.

    Lovely captures DI..

with so less resources in those day still, people managed to build such beautiful structures

The best of them all is the Brahadeeshwara Temple at Thanjavur, TN. It is an ASI protected monument today and people are baffled at its construction principles.

    Fantastic photos.
Here in Delhi, Malai Mandir is there in R K Puram. Murugan temple. Windy and great for gossiping. Adjacent to this temple is Kali Bhari, Bengali temple. Kali Bhari has a hall and my relatives conduct family occasions there sometimes.

I hope to visit Delhi sometime… If I visit, I will take your suggestions on which places to visit. Good to know about a couple of Temples in Delhi through your comment.

Yes, I too generally do not notice the intricacies of the sculpture in Gopurams. I am glad that I started photographing them. I am able to see them more closely.

I have heard a lot about this temple from my elder sisters and cousins, but don’t remember it since I had visited it when I was too young. I must make it a point to go when I am next in Chennai.

    1. Rajesh K

Yes, do. It’s an interesting place to visit.
