YEPME.com Vs. Myntra.com

YEPME.com has been advertising on TV quite aggressively, so when I wanted to buy new shoes, I thought why not check their website. I also wanted to look at the collection of shoes on Myntra.com, to which, I’ll come to shortly.

I spent about an hour checking various shoes on YEPME. I finally selected brown color shoes with brown lace and black sole. I didn’t want white color anywhere because I am afraid it will become dirty with mud. With brown color, though, exposure to mud & dust will enhance its look, not degrade. Maintenance-free πŸ˜› πŸ™‚

I also wanted to look at shoes on other sites so I went to Flipkart and Amazon.in to check out their collection. The shoes I selected at YEPME.com were more impressive and offered excellent value for money, so I finally selected that pair.

You maybe wondering what happened to Myntra.com. I went to that site to see: “You better install our app on your mobile to even have a look at our collection. And forget buying it from your desktop browser,”Β using slightly sweeter words.

So I just closed their website, thanked the team at Myntra.com for having made my decision easier, and ordered from YEPME.com. YEPME not only had a great website accessible on my laptop, offered an excellent price, but also gave me a further discount for paying upfront through a credit card (instead of CoD).

Imagine how much strain my eyes would’ve had to take to stare at the collection of shoes on Mytra mobile app for one hour using my small 4.7″ mobile screen. Especially considering I can do that comfortably on a 20″ desktop monitor. (I thought even my 15.5″ laptop screen was small and use a 20″ monitor to read!)

Whoever came up with that #epicfailΒ #apponly strategy should know this: You just lost a customer to a rival because they had a functional website accessible from my desktop. Are you happy now?

For the viewing pleasure of Myntra.com team, I will show the awesome shoes I bought from YEPME for Rs. 368, including two-day delivery cost. (Maybe you can consider that site for your personal shopping. Don’t forget, you can shop using your computer.) Here they are:

Haha, Rajesh, I can understand the frustration with app only pref of many websites today, as I face the same problem. I should try Yepme again, my exp was not that great last time.

Good thinking… I also don’t like apps that much.

It’s not just the apps, but the small mobile screen we need to look at. It’s difficult to see for a long time without straining our eyes.

Lol I really thought you bought from both the websites to compare. Even I don’t like websites which ask you to use their app only. Desktop is so much better!

Btw I changed the URL to my blog. Have added the new url here.

Yes, I got it. I’ve already gone through your latest post πŸ™‚

There was nothing on the Mytra desktop website to buy. Otherwise, I could have done that comparison πŸ™‚

Shoes look great. How is it holding up in the rains? I also don’t understand this app only route, I feel extremely uncomfortable shopping on my phone (more so for security reasons than anything else).

I don’t intend to take the new shoes out, at least not until all the water has been cleared off the streets πŸ™‚

Strangely, my mobile connection is unstable on the phone, and is steady on the desktop. I use the same mobile for Internet via. Ethernet tethering. That makes it even more difficult to do things like shopping from my mobile!

You got nice pair of shoes! Sorry Myntra… I think apps should be only an option and not the only way of shopping.

    1. Rajesh K

Yes. I am not against mobile apps. But I am against app-only.

Great marketing lesson. One has to keep the customer’s convenience in mind. I wonder what could be the thought behind an app only approach.

    1. Rajesh K

Probably they thought their app will be the #1 in Play store and itunes.

    I buy only books online.

Safe option. But some deals are too good online! πŸ™‚

Shoes! Go to the store, try it, and buy it (if it gives comfortable feeling).

    1. Rajesh K

That’s what I too do. But in this case, the price:quality ratio was too good. I thought since they are cheap, why not try this now, and buy another proper pair from a shop after a few months. Let’s see if my next purchase will be online or offline!
