2015: Top 10 Tamil Songs of the Year

**If you don’t have much time, just listen to Songs #2 or #1. Both are incredible**

Here’s a yearly top 10/best Tamil songs list for 2015, selected and rated by me. The songs below were composed for movies released during the last one year. Please note that I did not listen to all Tamil songs released in 2015, and hence have included only those songs that caught my interest and were made popular by TV/radio channels, websites, etc. So this is not a comprehensive list.

The rating is my own, based on my musical tastes and preferences – I did not conduct any voting or go through any top music lists, etc. And I don’t claim any musical expertise — I am just a normal music lover like you all. OK, here’s the COUNTDOWN πŸ™‚

#10. Song: Kaara Aatakkara (Movie: OK Kadhal Kanmani)

I know this is the trailer, not the song. But it’s the jingle that’s too good – the full song didn’t hold my attention. Music director: A. R. Rahman; Singers: Aaryan Dinesh, Dharshana, Shashaa Tirupati.

#9. Song: Adi yendi yendi (Movie: Puli)

This song has a nice punch and nice beats. Slightly old-fashioned, but it holds my interest alright. Music director: Devi Sri Prasad; Singers: Shruti Hassan.

#8. Song: Oh oh… (Movie: Thangamagan)Β

This is a different song. It starts slow and melodious, but the guitar brings in the fast-paced change in rhythm. I didn’t like it initially, but liked it after I listened to it a couple of times. Music director: Anirudh; Singers: Anirudh, Dhanush & Nikitha Gandhi.

#7. Song: Mental Manadhil (Movie: OK Kanmani)

This song is not great, but has an excellent rhythm. It’s a good song to hum or sing along. Music director: A. R. Rahman; Singers: A. R. Rahman.

#6. Song: Katthikida (Movie: Kaaki Sattai)

Generally, I don’t like such loud songs, but this one is a class apart. You’ll have to stand and dance while you listen to it. No escaping πŸ˜‰ Music director: Anirudh; Singers: Andony Dasan, Anita, Manasi.

#5. Song: Kannala kannala (Movie: Thani Oruvan)

This song is pure class. I loved it right the first time I listened to it in the theater. They could have sustained the rhythm throughout the song, but it’s even good as is. Music director: Hiphop Tamizha. Singers: Kaushik Krish; Padmalatha.

#4. Song: Pookale Satru Oivedungal (Movie: I)

If you thought the song is excellent, the visuals are just brilliant! What a symphony between music, singers and the camera. Music director: A. R. Rehman; Singers: Haricharan, Shreya Ghoshal.

#3. Song: Dangamari (Movie: Anegan)

I know some people will not agree with this song selection, that too so high on my rating. But this is an absolute winner for me – I just loved this. What a different take on the fast kutthu/gaana genre. Be ready to dance again πŸ™‚ Music director: Harris Jeyaraj. Singers: Dhanush, Marana Gaana Viji, Naveen Madhav.

#2. Song: Mazhai Vara Poghudhe (Movie: Yennai Arindhal)

This song is pure brilliance. Gautam Vasudev Menon always brings the best out of Harris Jeyaraj and look what an awesome song we’ve got here. We are lucky that this movie was released on Jan. 01, 2015 πŸ˜‰ Music director: Harris Jeyaraj; Singers: Emcee Jezs, Karthik.

#1. Song: Unakkena Venum Sollu (Movie: Yennai Arindhal)

What a MAGIC πŸ™‚ Initially, I wanted to place this song in the #2nd position, but I kept listening to this one and the above song repeatedly, and well — at least for me — the melodious song always wins πŸ™‚ Pure Wonder. Β Music director: Harris Jeyaraj; Singers: Benny Dayal, Mahathi.

As a bonus, I’ll also give you two songs that I badly wanted to add in this list, but wasn’t able to, as the movies were released in Nov. 2014! They are: Isai veesi (Isai); PesadheΒ (Thirudan Police).

Enjoy πŸ™‚

I feel new Tamil movies and their songs are good, nowadays. Both rhythmic and melodious. Nice collection.

When compared to earlier years, this year’s list has not been spectacular. If Yennai Arindhal was released even one day earlier, this list would’ve lost a lot of luster. Let’s hope for better music next year. Tamil music is generally very good, much better than this.

Danga maani is absolutely an unusual composition from harris, who has been popular for melodies most. I have listened to all these songs and my personal favs are 7, 5, 4, and 2. I also like Kaadhal cricketil from thani oruvan and danga mari for the beat alone.

Nice listing down your favs… which i have also done in past.

1,2 are a class apart from the rest. I am surprised and glad that the same music director has composed #3 also. I love it πŸ™‚
