I remember walking to the top of the above Tower structure many times when I was young. Our school was behind the tower and we used to come here frequently with our cousins. But after I started to work, I went to the tower very rarely and it was sometime during this period that people were disallowed to walk to the top of the twelve-story tower structure. I think a couple of incidents of people jumping from the top triggered this move.
Anyways, Annanagar Tower is now open to the public and anyone can walk to the top of the tower structure. I remember this activity being ticketed when I was young, but now there are no tickets or charges to climb. So, we went to the top during our recent trip.
The administration seems to have beefed up the security measures and now it’s next to impossible for any falling accidents to happen from here. As you can see in the above photo, all along the path an extra row of metal railings have been installed over the one that was already there. So the path has been completely secured. On the top too, there is an extra layer of metal railings that extend very high.
The view from the top is as beautiful as it always was. Unlike earlier, now, there are many high-rise buildings around. Sample this –
Not just the view, even the space on the top of the tower has been beautifully painted – for our visual pleasure. But, as before, people have started writing their names and other slogans all along the path and even over the paintings.
It was raining (slightly) on the day we went and hence it was cool on the top of the tower. In spite of some water flowing on the cement floor, we did not skid even once. But older people and small children might want to be more careful while walking up during rainy times. Altogether, it was a nice experience to relieve our childhood memories!
We found a nice little cafe called, “Halt”, just outside the Tower – in the lane opposite to the Iyappan Temple. We had hot chocolate and marshmallows there – it was good 🙂

I am confused. You wrote: Annanagar Tower is not open to the public and anyone can walk to the top of the tower structure. If it is not open to the public, how can anyone can walk to the top of the tower structure?
Thanks for pointing out the spelling mistake. I have changed the not to now.
