Incredible India: Nalanda, Bihar
Nalanda, Bihar, East India, contains the remains of an ancient Indian University that functioned here from 5 Century CE to 12 Century CE. In its hey day, it accommodated 10,000 students and 2,000 teachers, from distant regions. It was a center for Buddhist & Hindu religious studies, and taught many subjects like philosophy, astronomy, medical science, etc. It was destroyed at the end of 12 CE – The 9-storied library was so vast that the books continued to burn for 3 months!
