Saranath Buddhist Site, Uttar Pradesh, North India. Also called Isipatana during ancient times, it is one of the four prominent Buddhist sites. This is the place where Buddha went immediately after attaining enlightenment, in order to propagate the path to his first five followers, who passed it on. It contains Buddhist Temples & Monasteries built by members of many countries. The Dhamek Stupa, largest here, is 128 feet high & 93 feet broad. The Ashoka pillar & Lion Capital symbol were adopted for the Indian national emblem and flag, from here. More…
