Incredible India: Thikse Monastery, J&K
Thikse Monastery, Jammu & Kashmir, North India. Thikse is a Tibetian Buddhist Monastery of the Yellow hat (Gelugpa) sect, located at an altitude of 3600m in Central Ladakh. Established in 15 CE, this is the largest Monastery, among many, in this region. The architecture resembles Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, the former seat of the Dalai Lamas and is 12-stories in height. The top-most floor houses the incarnate Lama of the Monastery and a large pillar engraved with Buddhist teachings is located here. More…
