GDN GD NAIDU MOVIE REVIEW

GDN (GD Naidu) is a recently released Tamil movie starring Madhavan. I had a lot of expectations for this movie, but I have to admit it disappointed me.

The movie is extremely well made, I don’t think I will want to dispute that, but the overall tone of the movie was negative.

The movie was mostly about Legend GD Naidu’s disputes with the Income Tax/Business Tax division, right from the British period that sadly continued even after Independence.

I feel, the movie makers could have made this a small part of the movie and focused on his innovations, business genius, etc. But they chose to make the tax issues the central theme of the movie and there is nothing inspirational about it.

I mean, when you focus on his scientific achievements and how it benefited the people back then, the movie could have been inspirational. The movie did tell all that, but somehow, the main theme was not about those, and that diluted the movie.

All that said, I still think it’s a well made movie. If you want to glimpse into the life of a legend called GD Naidu, you should watch the movie in whatever medium it is available now. Since my review is predominantly negative, I am posting after the theatrical run ought to have ended, so that this doesn’t affect ticket sales.
