Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ) – Guiding Dreams & Aspirations into Reality
Winning an Olympic Gold medal is a dream for us, but it should not remain a dream forever! It’s important to act on our dreams, only then some of them will become a reality. Winning an Olympic Gold is not impossible, as Abhinav Bindra had shown us in the Beijing Olympics, as our hockey team repeatedly showed us in the past. We did return without a Gold medal in the London Olympics but we still got 2 Silver medals and 4 bronze medals, which is no mean achievement, considering the history.
“OGQ can make a difference to the performance to the athlete in terms of technical support through providing best coaches and access to best training facilities, world-class equipment, doctors, physios and mental trainers from the OGQ panel of experts”
Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ) is an excellent initiative by eminent sports people like Geet Sethi, Prakash Padukone, Vishwanathan Anand, Viren Rasquinha and others who believe that it is possible for determined individuals to come together and make a difference in the world of Indian sports.
They believe that it is possible to bridge the gap between what a sports person can provide for themselves and what the Government can do for them. It is not that a nation with 1.2 billion people is devoid of talent. It is just that they are not identified at the right stage, they are not nurtured and guided in the right direction and they are not encouraged to achieve the highest honors that sport can provide.
The people associated with this non-profit organization are champions and world-beaters themselves. We can safely believe that they know what it takes to compete at the highest level, and among world-class players. Not satisfied with their personal contributions, they have come together to encourage more youngsters to achieve even greater honors. In their own words, it takes just 6 grams of gold to lift the worth of a nation.
The OGQ has already done a lot of things. I am sure that they will do even more in future. It is such efforts that gives us hope, gives us confidence, makes us believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
“Joining hands, Inspiring hearts” – Isn’t the collective spirit greater than the individual achievement? Isn’t that the crux of human spirit? Isn’t that the foundation of human society?

PS: Happy Independence day! 🙂
Happy Independence Day, D.I.
I didn’t know much about this organisation. It is good to know that somebody is taking serious action about sports in our country. Mary Kom, Vijaya Kumar etc. did hard work by themselves without much help from outside and won the medals for us. The people who are in this organisation also became prominent through their hard work. Now, with more help, we might see more people taking sports seriously.
Thanks for the information.
They are supporting the prospective medal winners. For example, they were responsible for arranging a foreign coach for Mary Kom, they provided funds for Saina Nehwal’s participation in the Hong Kong Super Series event, which she won. They have provided a full-time physiotherapist to the Gopi Chand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad, they bought the latest guns-ammunitions/ bows-arrows for our sportsmen, and they did much more.
They want to ensure that once an athelete has been identified and selected into their program, lack of equipment, training facilities, lack of fitness, administrative procedures, and other such factors will not come in their way of achieving an Olympic medal.

The result is more medals this time, I think. Thanks for the information, D.I.
The credit should also go to organizations like ‘Gopichand Badminton Academy’ and other similar ones, which are specific to certain sports and provide world-class coaching/facilities which have been instrumental in identifying and bringing up the best talents available in their respective sports.

Happy Independence Day…
The OGQ is really a great initiative.
And now the culture is changing in India, now parents encourage their children to play sports other than cricket. Let’s hope we will get Gold medals in Rio….
Yes. I too hope we start getting regular gold medals from Rio onwards… 🙂

Informative Post DI. I never knew of OGQ earlier. We have talented people who could win 100 gold medals, but it’s just the matter of identifying these talents and creating proper channel for them to enter olympics. I hope initiatives like this will help us top the chart during Rio Olympics!!
Let us hope for more than a couple of gold medals in the Rio Olympics and perhaps top the chart two/three Olympics after that 🙂

wow! I didnt know about this initiative. thanks!
It was unknown to me too, till about 3 weeks back. Because of the recent Olympics we get to know such good initiatives…

recognition .. that’s the word .. we do have talent but there’s none to recognize it!!!
Exactly! Let’s hope that more such organizations help recognize and nurture young talent.
