What is ‘Development’?
As far as I see it, ‘DEVELOPMENT’ is a PROPAGANDA to increase the GDP so that the Industry & Government can make MORE MONEY by making believers WORK MORE and MORE in the promise of a better lifestyle which is NEVER achieved.
I guess our P.M. would like to refute this argument.
But how about you?

I am very clearly confused. I thought GDP is to measure economic progress. If GDP is rising then the economy is in good shape and the nation is moving forward. A higher GDP equals greater human progress because it means more valuable goods and services have been created.
It may be misleading to a common citizen. That is why some people go with GPI (Genuine progress indicator). GPI uses the same data of GDP with a few adjustment factors.
The issue is, how much ever goods and services are created for humans, it will never be sufficient. Because human greed is that big. The only thing that will happen is, they will work more and more to attain those goods and services that will never satisfy them, and in many cases are not even necessary for them.
In this vicious cycle of GDP increment, there seems to be only one surety: People need to Work more and more.
I strongly feel GDP is only economic progression, not an indicator of any betterment in human life. For that, a lot many factors including happiness, work-life balance, sustainability, values, etc. need to be taken into account.

I see working towards equality is real development. It can’t be money matter alone is my thinking.
Equality is a good intention, but our capabilities, history, and situations are always different. So equality is difficult to achieve practically.
Somehow, I feel we are all already equal. If Ambani is contributing to the society in his own big way, I am also contributing to the society in my own small way. All of us are… so I don’t think there is much of a need to discriminate people, especially based on how much money they possess.

For me, a society is a developed one, if a good majority of its people have their basic needs (food, clothing, shelter, education, income etc.) fulfilled. And also if that society allows its people to pursue their desires without trampling on other people’s sensibilities.
Any society, at any point in time, has always met its members’ basic needs. It’s our greed that no society is able to satisfy.
